Installation (2009), double bed, live narcissus

In this work, I use the bed not as a site of intimacy, but as a space through which to reflect on our relationship with ourselves. The daffodil growing from the center of the bed becomes an image of self-centeredness within relationships — a metaphor for the condition in which the space once reserved for another gradually turns into an extension of the self. The flower refers both to the myth of Narcissus and to the everyday experience of how self-reflection can easily transform into self-absorption. For me, the work explores the delicate threshold where self-awareness remains constructive, but preoccupation with oneself begins to erode intimacy.
