Video installation (2010) – exposed negative 35mm film footage, 4200 metres, 60 × 60 cm glass cube, reflected video

This work begins with a fundamental paradox of moving images: film, in its material form, is inherently unviewable. When holding an exposed negative strip in one’s hand, the image appears only in reverse, while the illusion of motion collapses — leaving behind fragments rather than the continuity of lived time. In this work, I attempted to return this invisibility to a shared public space by stretching a filmed reel of negative from the edge of Szentendre to the entrance of the ArtMill, involving local residents and passersby in the experience of an image that was simultaneously present and inaccessible. For me, the work explores the threshold at which an image already exists yet has not fully become visible — or perhaps only begins to emerge through the presence of the viewer.
